    Tarson is a suspense thriller that can be enjoyed by people of all walks of life, says Kuloor. “It is the story of a film producer who made a movie named Tarzan. To enjoy the success of one of his films, he decides to stay at a palatial bungalow in the outskirts. That night a stranger comes to the bungalow, ties him up and tortures him in every possible way. He also asks him many questions. The stranger claims that he is his son from an illicit relationship that the producer had while shooting Tarzan,” explains the playwright.     Koonan, written by playwright Jayaprakash Kulur, based on a Filipino folktale, was first performed nearly 10 years ago as a seven-minute play on the sidelines of the Soorya Theatre festival in Thiruvananthapuram. Though it is a tale of sacrifice in love, what made the solo drama different was the way it was presented. “The play evolves using angika and sathwika abhinayas of the actor, where the voice, body and mind become mutually complementary,” Manjulan explains. With very little dialogue, Koonan creates a visual language beyond the spoken one, thus making it easy for even foreigners to appreciate it.

    For Manjulan, who won the G Shankarapillai Endowment Award in 1997 and the best director award of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi in 1998 for the play Kelu, the target is to complete 2,000 shows this year itself.
